6 Jan 2008 - Another Wolf from our fold

Warrington played their second pre-season friendly at Craven Park. On a bitterly cold afternoon 885 spectators braved the elements to see Warrington Wolves beat Barrow Raiders 54-16. Among the very Wolves team of second string players pushing for a first-team shirt was our very own Ben Mellor. The started thriteen included Mike Cooper and Lee Mitchell who have already established themselves as members of the Super League squad.

Ben had played almost all his formative rugby alongside those two after beginning as a founder member of the Unicorns in the very first team alongside Lee and against Chris Riley who was playing in the friendly for Longshaw Street. Ben and Lee were later joined by 'Coops' and the three stayed at Latchford throughout the years enjoying Lancashire Cup success at Under 16 level before they were picked up by the Wolves. Whilst Mike and Lee have made the early breakthrough Ben has plugged away and was voted U18 player of the year for 2007.

Having entered the fray Ben went over from close range on the 55th minute when the prop forward scooted from dummy half to mark his first team debut with a try. Well done Ben, look out for more to come from the powerfuly built workhorse forward
