1 Feb 2008 - Club of the Year

Latchford Albion's Youth Section won the Warrington Guardian Sports Personality of the Year Club of the Year Award for 2008 at glittering awards ceremony held at the Halliwell Jones Stadium on 1st February 2008.  The club fought off stiff competition from all sports to win the coverted award after becoming the largest amatuer rugby league club in the town. With more than 200 youngsters inlvoled and the club leading the way in the sport for ethnic minority representation, 2007 saw the Warrington Ladies and Warrington Girls teams come on board.

The award couldn't come at a better time with the youth section about to celebrate its ten year anniversary since the formation of the Unicorns, an event they hope to mark with the publication of a book later this year celebrating youth rugby at Latchford Albion.

Latchford had two other nominees in other categories on the night as they had the previous year with Stuart McIntosh and John Wilkinson just missing out a year ago. John Wilkinson was rightly nominated this year as unsung hero and founding father of the Unicorns, Sean Mellor was nominated as coach of the year. They may not have have won their particular category but the recognition of the youth section as a whole is in no small part to their long-standing involvement.
