19 Oct 2007 - More recognition for Latchford
At a glitzy awards ceremony held at Cranage Hall, Cheshire the Cheshire & Warrington Sports Partnership celebrated the efforst of those involved in amateur sport throughout the County and Warrington certainly excelled.
The male coach award went to Mike McLoughlin who most of you will know as the long standing coach of the Under 11's town team in its various guises. A lot of Latchford players have gone through Mike's hands when they have been selected for their first representaive honours before Service Area. This is a long overdue acknowledgement for a stalwart ambassador for youth rugby league in the town.
Warrington collected the Female volunteer of the year award and a special recognition award, while Latchford Albion Youth Section's very own Stuart McIntosh collected the male volunteer of the year award against very stiff competition from the other four districts in the county.
Stuart has been with Latchford's Youth Section for the past seven years and, after initially taking on a coaching role with our Under 10's in 2000, became the youth section secretary helping to secure the all important Sport England Clubmark for the Albion. With administration his strong suit he counts among his achievements the distinction of establishing this website, the support given to rescue the former Grappenhall Giants and helping Latchford become officially recognised as the biggest youth rugby set up in the town.
Stuart handed over the secretarial role to Steve Phillips who he brought to the club and now performs the roles of Membership Secretary and Fixture Secretary for Latchford. This year he served as assistant Service Area co-ordinator with fellow Latchford official John Wilkinson, has been involved as team manager with the Service Area for the past couple of years and runs the North West Counties 8-12's website.
Another person with Latchford connections was nominated for an award at the ceremony. Young Warrington referee David Outten who has officiated in 8-12's games involving Latchford was nominated as Young Volunteer of the Year.
