14 Jul 2007 - Another successful season

The Youth Section at Latchford Albion is beginning its eighth year having just celebrated what many may considered to be its most successful to date.

In a recent survey commissioned by Warrington's Service Area the author concluded that our club is now "the largest club in Warrington and the leading club in terms of ethnic minority representation, also one of the three clubs to have female players."

Those volunteers who work tirelessly for Latchford Albion should stand tall and relish this all too rare recognition.

You've already read on this website about the team successes, most notably from our Unicorns sides at U13 and 16 last season.

Let's take a moment to talk about individual achievements that we're also proud of. Latchford are committed to coach development as well as progressing the advancement of our players.

Andy Wood was appointed as Assistant Coach of the BARLA U18 squad as well as the Head Coach of Warrington Service Area's (WSA) U13 squad.

Ian Bennion was involved in the coaching team of the WSA U12 set up and Sean Mellor was Head Coach of the WSA U14's. John Wilkinson and Stuart McIntosh shared the Service Area Co-ordinator?s role, while Bobby Hall was involved in the Scholarship Scheme.

Again we were well represented on the playing front in the Service Area. At U12's we had Josh Wall, Chris Hunt, Liam Sullivan, Declan Patton, Andre Savelio, Callum Wright, Ash Cox, Jake Slydell, David Lea, Mikey Wharton and Matty Wilkinson.

At U13's we had Jordan Sherlock, Luke Gillooley, Alex Pendlebury, Jon Rigby, Dominic Jones, Taylor Wheat and George Lofthouse.

At U14's we had Matt Reid and Damon Tauroa-Rauhihi, whilst at U15?s we had John Hewitt and Adam Yates-Dutton.

The tremendous successes of our U16's have seen several players sign their first professional contracts. Warrington Wolves have recently picked up Matthew Lomax, Tom Rigby, Richard Taylor and Jack Cooper. Earlier Joe Mellor had signed for Wigan and Kallum Watkins for Leeds.

We should take a moment to wish another Unicorn turned Wolf a speedy recovery as Mike Cooper works hard to come back from a broken leg and some worrisome complications - Get well soon Coops!

With no team for them at Latchford some former Unicorns have gone to experience great success with Rylands U18's last season, too.

Our U17's player Mark Smith collected the sports personality of the year award from Priestley College in recognition of competing for England early in the year.

Finally Stuart McIntosh has been awarded Warrington?s Volunteer Club Co-ordinator of 2007 a few weeks ago to go with his 2006 award for Club Development.
