1 Feb 2007 - Date for your diary
Just to keep you all informed a date has been set for the HALBRO BARLA Under 16 Lancashire Cup Final is now set for Sunday, 18th March at Widnes Recreation ground, Liverpool Road, Widnes. The game is likely to be given a 1pm kick off. It'll be the third final of four that day with the U12 and U14 games first and the U18 game afterwards.
Whilst the U12s down to the U8s still have plenty of rugby ahead of them some of our older teams are coming to the end of their season. However, there's stil plenty of interest at all age groups.
Our Under 17s are in the inaugral season of an U17 league and are sitting second, two points behind the leaders with three games in hand. The teams play each FOUR times and Latchford have only managed to get eleven league games under their belt, the lowest amount in the league. So they have nine games left and a real chance of lifting the league trophy.
Our Under 16s are also in the running for top spot in their premier division. they have seven games left in the league and are currently sharing second spot just two points behind the leaders. Anyone from four can win this league so an exciting finish is assured.
The U15s find themselves second in their first division. Waterhead can't be caught but there may be a second promotion spot up for grabs that is being contested with Westhoughton Lions. After this weekend Latchford have just one game left against...Westhoughton Lions.
Our U14s have ten games left having played less than anyone else in their league. Whilst they currently languish second from bottom in their first division the games in hand should be converted into sufficient points to ensure safety.
Our U13 Giants also find themselves fighting to stave off relegation from their first division. It's thought that just one team will face the drop and they are curently second from bottom with just one game left. A win would lift them over neighbours Burtonwood who they face in the Cup this weekend. A defeat would sound a panic alarm as the team in bottom slot has two games left and there's just two points difference
Our other U13s, the Unicorns are sitting pretty at the top of the third division having won all fourteen of their matches this season and they can only be caught by local rivals Crosfields Vipers with just two games left. This week they face a tough game against premiership side Wigan St Pats in the cup.
So we encourage all to get down to Widnes on March 18th for what we hope will be one of several pieces of silverware for this season
