29 Nov 2005 - National & NWC Cup draws
The National Cup for the U16's is sponsored this year by Bartlett Insurance Brokers and has been sports matched. Latchford were not among the 26 teams given a bye through to the second round on 22nd January 2006.
Instead they have been given a tricky home tie against Thatto Heath Crusaders. Thatto are currently sitting a couple of places above the Unicorns having played seven games and lost just one, compared to Latchford's seven points from eight games, so it should be an entertaining encounter.
The U14's were not eligible to compete in the National Cup and so will play in the North West Counties Cup, which takes place on the same weekends as the more prestigious competition. The Unicorns have also been handed a toughie, away at Division Two leaders Langworthy Reds who are unbeaten in their seven games so far this season. There will be an extra incentive for the Manchester-based outfit who finished one place higher thatn Latchford in that league last season but missed out on the extra promotion spot. Let's hope our wingers are as quick off the mark as our coaching staff were on that occasion!!
