2 Jun 2003 - William Beamont High School

You may not be aware that Warrington were represented at this season?s Powergen Challenge Cup Final in Cardiff.

On the Friday before the final William Beamont High School competed in the Year 9 Champion School?s Final.
Not only was this good for the town of Warrington but also extremely pleasing for us at Latchford Albion since six of the 18-strong squad were members of our current U14 squad.

This current Year 9 squad has held the North West Counties Cup for two years and was English Schools Cup runners-up in Year 7.

On their way to reaching the final Beamont had beaten St Bedes from Bradford 38-4, Thorncliffe from Barrow 58-0 and St Mary?s from Wigan 34-4.

Now they would meet another Wigan school, Byrchall who had eleven players from Ashton Bears.

The Warrington school lead 20-10 at half-time with Mike Lineker scoring one of the tries.

In the second half Joe Gandy scored as they took the score to 36-10.
The Latchford Albion players in the squad were Chris Coleman, Joe gandy, Darren Hill, Jamie Kinsey, Mike Linaker and Ben Mellor.

The school has a fine tradition in Rugby League having previously won the English Schools Cup at Year 7 and Year 11.

We have other connections with the school through Latchford players Lloyd Hardman, Jonathan Smith, Dean Taylor, Anton Mason and next year?s Year 7 pupil Carl Evans.
