05/11/2005 v Rylands 'A' (away)
Rylands 'A' - 12Latchford Albion 'A' - 27
Latchford took this game to Rylands from the start and dominated much of this local derby. Tough tackles from Matty Drinkwater and Iain Fowler kept Rylands out for the first set of six as they peppered Latchford?s right side Rylands then switched inside to try their luck down the middle but still to no avail as Chris Russell, Mal Mason and the Taylor brothers defended superbly. After thirty minutes Latchford conceded the first penalty of the game and gifted Rylands two cheap points. Latchford turned up the heat. Neil Guest broke away to score, 2-4, but Latchford again gifted the opposition a penalty to draw level. It was almost like Groundhog Day when Neil Guest again to restore the lead 4-8. The half time whistle loomed but there was still time for Rylands to break free and score a well-worked try and level the scores at the break.
Play resumed with some fantastic rugby league shown by both teams. Latchford just had the edge over their rivals and capitalised on this to run away with the game. Tries from winger Adam Williams, loose forward Mal Mason and prop forward Chris Russell stretched the lead. Matty Drinkwater added three goals to make the score a very convincing 26-8. To rub salt in a very bruised Rylands side?s wounds, stand off Ben Fawcett dropped a twenty-metre drop goal 8-27. The rest of the game was played out in good spirits even though it was a derby. Both teams played it tough but, as Latchford relaxed in anticipation of the final whistle, Rylands broke free to score the last points of the game.
BEST FOR LATCHFORD IN THE FORWARDS - Iain Fowler (man-of-the-match) Glyn Taylor, Paul Lake, Mal Mason, Chris Russell, Andy Abbott and Lyndon Taylor
BEST IN THE BACKS - Ben Fawcett and Matty Drinkwater were outstanding Back to top
12/11/2005 v Accrington (away)
Accrington - 34Latchford Albion 'A' - 0
This was an extremely tough game for Latchford, played in very heavy conditions and they went down to a particularly strong side.
Latchford toughed it out to the break and kept the score down to 6 points by the whistle. After the break things went from bad to worse in the wet conditions. The Albion couldn?t retain the ball and Accrington capitalised, going even further in front. Even so the final result of 32-0 didn?t reflect the game.
Latchford?s best were: prop forward Andrew Abbott, Lyndon Taylor, Glyn Taylor and John McGrath who was very impressive in defence. Ben Fawcett, Adam Williams and Ben Eley also had good defensive games in the backs Back to top

Latchford's second string got back to winning ways with a well deserved win away to Widnes outfit West Bank Bears in this Northwest Counties Division 6 tie. The Platform was set by the hard running pack led by captain Mal Mason and relentless defence by all 17 with Ben Fawcett making his debut at hooker topping the tackle count and 'Big Barny' Hebbdon putting in the big shot of the game.
Neil Guest was first on the scoreboard with a well worked effort to see him touch down under the sticks and Matty Drinkwater tagged on the extras to take a six-point lead. Widnes then came back with a try due to Latchford's poor discipline, 'Birthday Boy' Dean Holt was next to touch down for the visitors when a well-worked move saw the flying winger touch down in the corner. Next up was the strong running Matty Wilson who touched down in the corner. Again due to the visitors' poor discipline West Bank were allowed to complete the first half scoring with try and goal. Half time, 10 -14 to Latchford.
The second half was one way traffic when Man of the Match, Mike Bishop opened the scoring with a hard fought solo effort to race 70 metres and touch down under the sticks, Matt Drinkwater added the extras. It was Bishop again that put Latchford further infront with another well taken try. Paul Daintith was next on the score sheet with a well taken effort followed by Jimmy Harrison's long range effort under the sticks Wilson added the goal. Widnes scored a well deserved try but it was too late to stop the Latchford bandwagon from rolling as up stepped Bishop to complete his hat trick and the scoring for Latchford with the try off the match only then to make a hash of his first career attempt at goal.
Best for latchford were Forwards, Mat Wilson, Mal Mason, Ben Fawcett and Man of the Match Mike Bishop,
Best in the backs were Dean Holt, Mat Drinkwater and Neil Guest. Well supported by Paul Lake and Paul Daintith in the centres.

Halton Simms Cross A 26Latchford Albion A 14
Latchford failed to convert possession into points in this North West Counties Division 6 game. Despite having most of the ball in the first half Latchford went in at half time 14-6 down, the visitors' points all coming from the boot of Captain Mal Mason. The Simms Cross tries came from rare Latchford mistakes.
The second half saw Benny Fawcett jink his way through to score after the hard yards were made by the Latchford pack. Another Latchford error allowed Simmies to cross again for a converted try and extend their lead to 20-10. Dean Holt was next on the score sheet after a well-worked move from the base of the scrum that saw Jimmy Harrison feed Holt for a try out wide. Simmies finished off the scoring with a chip over on the final whistle to see them home with a 26-14 win.
Best for Latchford were Glynn Taylor, Mal Mason and Paul Williams in the forwards, the pick of the backs were Ben Fawcett, Paul Lake and Jason Best. These six were well supported by Andy Wood, Chris Russell, Lindon Taylor, Mick Bardill and Barney Hebbdon in the Forwards and John McGrath, Mark Lord, Dean Holt and Jimmy Harrison in the backs Back to top
04/02/2006 v Eccles & Salford Juniors (home)
Latchford Albion 'A' - 30Eccles & Salford Juniors - 44
Eccles & Salford Juniors were wide awake and caught Latchford napping, or rather fast asleep. In fact they looked like they were in a coma. With 3 quick-fire tries by the visitors, all through the same gap, Latchford awoke from their slumber to find they were 18 points down. Up stepped the strong running Mal Mason who forced his way through and crossed the line to open Latchford's account. Latchford then returned to their slumbers and allowed Salford another two easy tries to go in at the break ahead 30-4.
The second half saw Latchford battle back with the first of Neil Guest's tries. It looked like the Albion were getting on top only to be reduced to 12 men for ten minutes on TWO occasions when Harrison was sin binned for striking. Two quick tries by the Salford men were answered by further tries by Mason and Guest to keep Latchford in the game, more points by Salford extended their lead to 44-20. Stong runs and a big defensive game by Dean Holt took its toll as he had to leave the field with broken fingers late in the game, Mat Hopwood replaced Holt and scored with his first touch. Paul williams completed the scoring with Guest adding the goals for a final score of 44-30 to Salford.
The MoM awards went to Paul Williams, Lindon Taylor, Glynn Taylor and Ben Eley. Also firing for Latchford were Mal Mason and Chris Wailes in the forwards supported by with Dean Holt and Paul Lake who were both solid in defence. Neil Guest and Captain Ben Fawcett ran the show from the middle of the park with John McGrath, Barney Hebbdon, Andy Wood and Elliot Chester all running well Back to top

Widnes St Maries - 40Latchford Albion 'A' - 14
Despite a great effort and determination from the Latchford 17, the second string were not able to finish their league campaign on a high after suffering a 40 -14 defeat away to division 6 champions Widnes St Marries. The score line did not reflect the never-say-die attitude of the team and the effort by all, the Warrington cup game V Bank Quay Bulls on the park on the 29th now looks to be a match not to be missed.
Tries by Chris (The Bear) Russell, Jimmy Harrison and a 75m effort by Mat Wilson with a goal added by captain Mal Mason concluded the season's scoring. Glynn Taylor took the Man of the Match award closely run by Mat Wilson and Benny Fawcett. A disappointing end to the season was suffered by the ever present hard running Lindon Taylor after suffering a broken thumb in the first half but in true Latchford fashion, he played through the pain barrier and completed the 80 minutes. Debuts were handed to Daz Halligan and Mike Syers who both impressed the crowd with some strong running and relentless defence. Back to top
