Introducing you to Latchford Albion Unicorns
Dear Parent/Guardian/CarerOn behalf of Latchford Albion Unicorns' Youth Section I would like to welcome your child to the club and provide you with some information about our activities. The club provides opportunities for young people between the ages of six years and sixeen years to receive coaching and competition in Rugby League. All coaching is by qualified coaches who are trained and have been screened for their suitability for working with young people.
We welcome parents to all training and matches and value your support. We are keen to try and involve parents in the club. This website provides information about many aspects of our club including:
The history of Latchford Albion ARL club, including a focus on past players and an insight into why we are the Unicorns
Information about formal registration and what is required.
Codes of conduct for players, parents/guardians and spectators
The Club Constitution for the Youth Section
Club Officials, their contact information and codes of conduct for coaches
Training sessions for the Under 7's to Under 15's take place on Tuesdays at 6.30pm and Saturdays at 10.30am at Victoria Park, Knutsford Road, Latchford, Warrington. The Under 16's train on Wednesday evenings. Directions can be found elsewhere on this site.
Arrangements should be made for your child to travel to and from training sessions and matches. We appreciate it if children can arrive promptly and are collected promptly at the end of the session, if they are not making their own way home. If you are going to be late picking your child up, please contact the coach for your child's age group and let them know.
Please ensure child wears appropriate clothing for training. The cost of membership is just £2 per week, payable at training sessions each and every week.
We would be grateful if you could complete the club membership registration form below and return it to your age group's coach. To access the form simply right-click and view the form in a different pane, you can then save it and print it off at your leisure.
For the safety of your child it is important that the club is informed of any medical condition or allergies that may be relevant should your child fall ill or be involved in an accident while at the club.
If you would like to talk to someone at the club about this information or your child's involvement with the club, please contact the Youth Section Co-ordinator, Stuart McIntosh on 01925 659963 or 07879 422641.
We thank you for your co-operation and look forward to meeting you at some point in the future.
Yours sincerely,
Sean Mellor

Why Do I Need to Register?
Registration is a must.Unregistered players are unable to train or play for any club because of insurance eligibility. One or more unregistered players training or playing for a club can make void the club's and/or the opposing club's insurance. Therefore clubs and coaches could become liable for any claim that may be brought.
That is why, on your first visit, we ask for the player's name, address, date of birth, telephone number and parent or guardian?s name. The first couple of training sessions are free to see if the player likes what they see and wants to join the club. Thereafter a weekly subscription charge of £2.00 is payable to the individual team coaches.
Latchford Albion currently run teams from Under 8's to Under 16's. The club is affiliated to the North West Counties' 16-18's League, 13-15's League and 8-12's League.
The age qualification is that the player is under the appropriate age at midnight on 31st August. No mixed sex teams at the age of U12 and upwards. That means, sadly, that we have to say goodbye to our girls after the Under 11's. Sad, because Latchford has prided itself on having brought on many female players over the past few years.
Players must be registered with the relevant registration secretary for the age group they are playing in. The only age group that player can play for is the age group he/she is registered to (unless that player is representing the Association in a county game).
Players can only play and train with the clubs they are registered with, unless approval has been granted by the Association to train and play elsewhere.
A player will only be de-registered when the club returns the player's card to the Association. A player must have been de-registered for a full 24 months (2 years) before he/she can move to another club, without the need of a transfer from the original club.
Teams may only apply for 2 transfers in any one season, both transfers must not be from the same club. Teams can only register 25 players, except U7's, 8's & 9's, where there is no limitation.
Players must be registered for 48 hours before they can play in matches.
So many rules! But don't worry, the administration side is dealt with by club officials, just so long as you know what we have to adhere to. Back to top
What Do I Need to Register?
So what must you provide us with in order to register. Prior to registration you will already have been asked to complete a club membership form. This covers the insurance side of things while training.Prior to being allowed to compete in matches a player must be registered with the North West Counties and the British Amateur Rugby League Association. To register a player must provide us with:
Two passport type photographs
A photocopy of his/her birth certificate or other official proof of birth.
An official BARLA Registration Form correctly filled in, bearing the signature of that player and the signature of that player's parent/guardian
These items should be handed to the team coach who will forward them to the club's Registration Secretary who will pass it on to the Association. The process can take a week or even longer.
Parents should be aware that a child wishing to play junior rugby with the Association can only play for one club, the club he/she first registers with, unless transferred according to BARLA rules.
If the player's birth certificate shows a different surname from the one they now wish to be known by then official documentation is also required that displays that other name, for example a passport, adoption certificate or deed poll form etc.
Once the registration card is received by your coach then matches can be played in against other teams. Back to top
Player Declaration
There are several parts to the registration form including a declaration that must be signed by the player. That declaration states that the player is not registered with any professional club and that the player agrees to abide by the Rugby League Code of Ethics and Conduct. They are posted elsewhere on this site and it is importatnt that all concerned familiarise themselves with those codes. The player is also to acknowledge that the sport of Rugby League involves a high degree of physical contact and such contact can result in injury. They should acknowledge that if they are injured in a match they may be entitled to certain compensation under the terms of the policy of insurance maintained by BARLA a copy of which is held by the club secretary.
Such insurance cover may be excluded for illegal or foul play or contact, which is contrary to the rules and customs of Rugby League whether committed by that player, or by any person as a result of which an injury arises. It should also be acknowledged that the insurance cover may not be sufficient to compensate the player for certain types of injury or disability. The player should acknowledge that they are aware that BARLA'S policy of insurance does not include cover for players' liability for injury or financial loss caused to other players during Rugby League matches and training sessions, so that any claim that they may wish to make against another player, or which may be brought against them, in respect of such injury or loss, will not be covered by the BARLA policy.
A player should understand that they have the right to obtain their own personal accident, liability or injury cover should they widsh to do so. Back to top
Parent/Guardian Declaration
If the player is aged under 18 years then their parent/guardian must sign to say they are not aware of any medical reason why the child should not take part in contact sport, and there is a section for the player to state if they consider themselves to have a disability and what the nature of that diability is.The parent/guardian has to sign to say they agree to abide by the Rugby League Code of Ethics and Conduct. These are published elsewhere on this site.
They also sign to say they agree to the use of the information as set out in a Data Protection Notice that is published on the form. Back to top
