Problems with registrations meant that the Under 9's opening couple of games had to be cancelled. They eventually took the field at home to Wigan outfit, New Springs Legion.It proved to be a really close match that could have gone either way but, sadly for Latchford, went in favour of the visitors. Leyland U9's 16 - 28 Latchford Albion U9's
Latchford played with determination and were very strong in defence to beat a strong opposition in Leyland.Rhys Jones had a great game and took the team player award. Jennie Pendlebury was the top defender and Shaun Rigby top attacker.
Shaun scored two tries as did Gavin Bennion and Jonathan Rigby with Alex Pendlebury claiming the other. Back to top

Latchford put on a brave performance but Parkside proved too strong for them.Gavin Bennion played a very strong game and ran in all four of Latchford's tries, his award of best attacking player was well deserved.
Billy Martin was the strongest player in defence and an enthusiastic all round performance from Nicholas Snelson was rewarded with the team player award. Back to top

This was a very closely fought contest in which Latchford played with great determination to come out as winners. Their defence was strong, particularly in the second half when they played solidly to keep their one try lead.Try scorers for Latchford were Gavin Bennion (4), Jonathan Rigby (2), Jennie Pendlebury (2), Declan Chadwick and Joe Cooper. This was a great game of rugby with both teams playing with enthusiasm. Latchford were very strong defensively and Jonathan Rigby earned the award for his defensive play. Nigel Hankey received the the team player award and Joe Cooper got this week's award for the attacking play scoring two tries. This was a close and tough game in which both sides played with determination. Latchford's tackling did let them down, however, meaning that Folly Lane came away the winners. Declan Chadwick scored a hat trick and earned the award for attacking play, other try scorers were Gavin Bennion and Billy Martin (2). Martin also tackled strongly throughout the game and received an award for his defensive play. Team player trophy went to Shaun Rigby in reward for his superb effort on the pitch. Latchford's defence was very strong in this game, which was played enthusiastically by both teams. Try scorers for Latchford were Alex Pendlebury, who picked up an award for his attacking play, Jennie Pendlebury, Declan Chadwick, Ryan Farnan, Luke Boden and Ryan Eddleston. This was Eddleston's first appearance and, as well as his try, his defensive play earned him an award. Rhys Jones earned the team award for his all round performance. Latchford Albion?s Under Nines put on a great show against a very strong and committed side from Burtonwood. The Bulldogs' main strength was in defence, which the Albion, unfortunately, couldn't match despite all their best efforts.Try scorers for Latchford on the day were Alex Pendlebury who scored two, Nicholas Snelson and Declan Chadwick. Declan's all-round performance earned him the player-of-the-match award. Billy Martin picked up the award for best attacking player while Jonathan Rigby was awarded the defensive accolade. Latchford made a great start to the second part of the season in this game. They defended strongly and were able to break through the opposition's defence. Try scorers for the Albion were Jonathan Rigby (2), Bennion and Farnan who picked up the award for attacking play. An appreciative crowd watched a great performance from both sides. After trailing by one try at half time Latchford really stepped up a gear for the second half and showed good team skills to pull the game back. Latchford Albion's U9s proudly stepped out onto Wilderspool Stadium for the curtain raiser of the Amateur Cup Final and showed the progress they had made since the Bulldogs beat them 32-16 in December. This truly encouraging display was typified by the excellent communication between the players and their defensive display was superb. At half time the teams were level 8-8.The second half was also closely fought with both teams on 16 points. However, on returning to the field after a short rest, Jonathan Rigby scored the decider. Each player received a commemorative medal presented by Warrington Wolves player Matt Sturm. Paul Coleman, Jonathan Rigby and Sam Coyle also received a Simpson's watch donated by ASDA for their efforts. Back to top
