Female participation in Rugby League is set to grow in 2010 as women and girls from Warrington will be offered the opportunity to participate in Rugby League thanks to a new National Lottery Funded Project.

Warrington Women & Girl’s Rugby League Club have been awarded over £7000 to deliver coaching sessions to High Schools in the area in support of female participation in Rugby League.

Nigel Johnson, assistant coach to England Women’s Rugby League team, will be heading the project with the help of Priestley College.

“Built on the strength of this seasons open age team we hope that more girls between the ages of 10 and 16 will take up the opportunity to try a new sport,” said Johnson.

“Recent developments in the female game of Rugby League are helping girls achieve a very high standard, with many achieving international honours from the age of 16 upwards.”
